Pillars of literacy support, built for your student.
Every session at Bayou Read and Write is structured, supportive, and optimized for learning. With a background in writing, experience in editing and publishing, a certification in Evidence Based Literacy Intervention, a B2 proficiency in French, and years of classroom experience, I bring all of these skills to every student interaction while assessing student need in order to create an arch of progress for our time together.
K-8: Literacy Foundations
The K-8 Literacy pillar of support address foundational literacy skills in readers and writers. Students will benefit from this type of support if they struggle with dyslexia, dysgraphia, or if you’ve noticed that there’s a key piece to reading and writing that just hasn’t “clicked” yet.
Together, we will work through a structured literacy program addressing handwriting, spelling, reading fluency, and sentence-level writing. I will tailor sessions to your student’s unique challenges with literacy and ensure that they walk away with the skills necessary to become confident readers.
Literacy Expanded: Writing Intensive
The Writing intensive support pillar develops student skills in many types of writing. This pillar is suitable for students who are challenged by longer form, more advanced writing, and who need support in structuring their ideas.
In our work together, I will teach students the forms of narrative, informative, and analytical writing as well as college essay writing. We will workshop pieces that your student has written and they will receive detailed notes on their writing. Any gaps in a student’s writing skills will be addressed and filled.
French Language Support
French Language Support is a pillar developed around the vibrant Francophone culture here in New Orleans. With so many French immersion schools in the city, French Language Support offers learners a space to practice and hone their language skills.
In our work together, we will place emphasis on understanding grammatical structures, expanding vocabulary, and developing aural comprehension skills. We will work closely with the student’s existing French curriculum in order to follow the logical progression of
